After Rovers closed the gap on the top two with a 3-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town, we review how the Rovers’ players performed.
A Charlie Mulgrew set-piece either side of Danny Graham’s goal was enough to give Rovers the victory in what was one of the best performances of the season from Mowbray’s side.
So, how did the players perform?
NOTE: The ratings have been taken from an average of Rovers Chat writers’ ratings.
Raya, David – 7/10 – A decent performance by the keeper. At first viewing, I felt Raya was harshly done by with the penalty decision but recovered well and commanded his box well.
Nyambe, Ryan – 7/10 – He struggled in the first half but after the break, he attacked well and had a good second half. The bit of skill towards the end was brilliant and showed how his confidence has increased.
Downing, Paul – 7/10 – A good defensive performance in his first game as a fully-fledged Rover. No idea why he had his goal disallowed in the second half.
Mulgrew, Charlie – 9/10 – Magic Mulgrew. An inch-perfect free-kick and a confident penalty took him up to 11 goals for the season – the most for a Rovers player for at least 25 years. A class above.
Williams, Derrick – 7/10 – A decent performance from Williams. He was dominant in the air as usual and got forward well.
Smallwood, Richie – 7.5/10 – The King of Ewood continuously won the ball back, got forward well and looked great alongside Elliott Bennett.
Bennett, Elliott – 8/10 – Playing in centre-midfield alongside Smallwood, Elliott Bennett had possibly his greatest performance of the season. He continued to win the ball back, whilst getting forward well and creating chances.
Samuel, Dominic – 6/10 – Had a chance in the first half when Beckles brought him down, which led to the free-kick that Mulgrew dispatched. Otherwise, he struggled to make any real impact.
Dack, Bradley – 7.5/10 – Just what we’d expect from Dack. Was a constant threat to the Shrewsbury back line. With a bit of luck, he had the shot that led to Graham’s goal.
Conway, Craig – 6.5/10 – He struggled to make any real impact on the wing. Got down the line well but he had to keep coming inside and running across the box, without any real impact.
Graham, Danny – 8/10 – Delighted that Graham got another goal. He battled all game with Shrewsbury centre-half Toto Nsiala and got the goal he deserved by reacting the quickest.
Armstrong, Adam (for Craig Conway, 62 mins) – 6.5/10 – A decent debut. Some good work on the left and he has that extra yard of pace.
Nuttall, Joe (for Danny Graham, 82 mins) – 6.5/10 – Held the ball up well and fought against the defenders. Struggled to create anything as Rovers held out.
Travis, Lewis (for Dominic Samuel, 86 mins) – 6.5/10 – Another decent spell off the bench from Travis. A good prospect.
