Rovers ran out as 4-2 winners over Oxford United on Tuesday night at the Kassam Stadium.
A brace from Charlie Mulgrew and a goal each for Marcus Antonsson and Joe Nuttall gave Mowbray’s men the victory.
Rovers took the lead within 8 minutes. A corner from Bradley Dack was flicked on by Paul Downing, and Mulgrew was there to tap home at the back post.
9 minutes later, and Rovers’ lead was double. Dack capitalised onto a poor pass and was denied by former Rover Simon Eastwood, but Antonsson was there to tap it home.
In the 22nd minute, Mowbray’s men seemed out of sight. Dwight Tiendalli brought down Dack in the box, and Mulgrew dispatched the spot kick.
Rovers were in cruise control and the 752 travelling fans were in great spirits.
Just before half-time, the home side pulled one back. A great bit of work by Jack Payne gave him the opportunity to score, and he took his chance, with the ball hitting the post on the way home.
The half-time whistle went and the Oxford army booed their side off the pitch.
The second half kicked off and the home side was on top. Mowatt had the best chance of the half with a 20-yard shot that he dragged wide.
You could feel the next goal was crucial, and the away side killed the game off with it.
Bennett beat his man down the right-hand side and Nuttall bundled the ball home from six yards out.
However, there was still time left for another goal for the home side.
Substitute Obika turned and buried the ball into Raya’s net – and the Spaniard couldn’t do much with the shot.
The full-time whistle went and Rovers secured their second away win in as many games.
It was a great performance by the Blues and once they had the 3 goal lead, there only really seemed one outcome.
Rovers will now face Bristol Rovers at home on Saturday, before playing their game in hand away to Blackpool on Tuesday.
