Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of Swiss-born Canadian goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler from Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed fee.
Leutwiler worked under Mowbray when they were both together at Middlesbrough, and has joined on a two-year deal – with the option of a third year.
The Canadian had a brilliant first season at Shrewsbury, breaking the club record for the most clean sheets in a league campaign with 23 from his 46 games – helping Shrewsbury on their way to automatic promotion to League One.
Leutwiler played Rovers in the first round of the Capital One Cup, when Shrewsbury beat Rovers at Ewood 2-1.
The 28 year old then played 49 games for The Shrews last season, meaning he had played 140 games for The Shrews.
Leutwiler will wear the number 13 shirt at Rovers, and becomes the eight signing of the summer, after Whittingham, Smallwood, Dack, Gladwin, Caddis, Samuel and Nuttall. Rovers will be hoping the shot-stopper will provide good competition for current Rovers number 1 David Raya.
