Rovers have announced the signing of Paul Downing on loan from MK Dons until the end of the season.
Rovers have made their third deadline day signing, with Paul Downing joining on a season long loan from MK Dons.
After the additions of Rekeem Harper and Sam Hart, Mowbray has brought in 25 year old centre back Paul Downing.
Downing was on the bench during Rovers’ 4-1 win over his parent club, MK Dons.
The 25 year old began his season coming through the youth ranks at West Bromwich Albion, but failed to make a senior appearance. During his time at The Hawthorns, Downing spent time on loan at Hereford, Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Barnet.
In 2012, Downing moved to Walsall. He spent 4 years there, and made 156 league appearances, grabbing 6 goals.
On the 27th June 2016, Downing joined MK Dons after rejecting a new contract with Walsall. Downing made his debut on the opening day of the 2016-17 season, keeping a clean sheet away to Shrewsbury.
Downing is likely to have been brought in to be backup to Mulgrew and Lenihan, and provide cover in case Rovers suffer defensive injuries, which is likely over the course of the season.
Mowbray worked with Downing at West Brom, and therefore will know what Downing will bring to the side.
