This Saturday, Blackburn will be hoping to truly kick off the 2017/18 season with a home match against one of League One new teams in Doncaste Rovers.
Doncaster have started the season fairly well, being unbeaten so far from their first two games. A 0 – 0 draw against Gillingham on the opening day and an 87th minute winner in an exciting 3 – 2 win away at Bradford in the EFL cup, inflicting Bradford’s first home defeat since November!
Doncaster came into this season on a winning streak having been automatically promoted from league 2 last year after finishing 3rd having been knocked off the top spot with only 30 minutes of the final game to play! Even so Doncaster haven’t actually won any of their last 6 league games since their 1 – 0 win over Mansfield town on the 8th April.
Blackburn’s record against Doncaster is a good one, having won 13 and only ever lost twice in 21 meetings. The last time the two teams met was back in the 2013/14 season in the Championship. Blackburn lost the first meeting 2 – 0 and won the second 1 – 0. Don’t expect a boring match; the two sides have never ended a match without a goal being scored. Doncaster have never won at Ewood Park – touch wood it doesn't happen now!
Doncaster don’t lack attacking threat or pace up top with John Marquis as their most recognisable striker. But, so far this season, it has been the midfield who having been running the show, the most prominent player being Rodney Kongolo, who is on loan from Manchester City. The midfielder likes to get forward and already has a goal to his name.
Richie Smallwood had a brilliant game against Coventry and Tony Mowbray will be hoping he can continue this against a side whose midfield like to get forward and press. The defence will have to be on their toes as every goal against Bradford was as a result of a defensive error.
Score prediction: 3 – 1 Blackburn
Tip: Dominic Samuel first goalscorer 5/1
