Rotherham United were formed in 1925, after a merger of Rotherham Town and Rotherham County. They were involved in the inaugural Football League Cup Final in 1961, and have previously won the 1996 Football League Trophy and the 1946 Football League North Cup.
Rotherham were relegated relatively comfortably last season from the Championship with only 23 points and a minus 58 goal difference. A season of turmoil started with Alan Stubbs as manager, but after his sacking Kenny Jackett took over but only lasted 37 days. Paul Warne took over as interim manager, and was given the full time job.
Rotherham need to replace top scorer Danny Ward who has moved to Cadiff in a £1.5m deal, and they hope they have done this with new signing Jamie Proctor from Bolton. Ward scored 12 goals last year in a struggling team, but a lot of new recruits are hopefully going to change the way they play and become more attacking. An impressive pre season culminated in a resounded 4 0 victory at home to Barnsley, with Jamie Proctor impressing.
Rotherham will be hoping they can make it back to the Championship at the first time of asking, but they will find it tough and may have to settle for mid-table.
