Rochdale were founded in 1907 (110 years ago) and are based in Greater Manchester. They moved to their current stadium – Spotland – in 1920 and were accepted into the Football League in 1921. Since then, the club has only ever been in the third tier and fourth tier.
The Dale played for 36 consecutive seasons (1974 to 2010) in the fourth tier of English Football – League 2 now. They went up to League 1 in 2010, but was relegated in 2012. Two years later, Rochdale went up to League 1 again. Since then, they’ve finished 8th, 10th and 9th.
This season, Rochdale will be hoping to go at least one step further, by reaching the play-offs this season. This could give the Dale their first ever Championship/Second Tier season in their history. They will be relying on Ian Henderson to supply the goals, who has been their top scorer for the last 3 seasons with 49 combined from these seasons.
