Portsmouth, also know as Pompey, are a professional club in Hampshire, England . Founded in 1898, they play their home matches at Fratton Park. Since the club’s formation, they have been champions of England in 1949 and 1950, and have won the FA Cup in 1939 and 2008. The club will be playing in the third tier of English football (League One) after winning League Two on the final day of the 2016-2017 season.

In 2008, Portsmouth won the FA Cup under Harry Redknapp. However, it all fell apart for Pompey. They fell into administration and tumbled down the leagues and ended up in League 2 in the 2013-2014 season.

They finally got up last season, winning the title on the last day by pipping Plymouth and Doncaster to the title. Former manager Paul Cook looked to reassure the club last season and did with promotion, and the Pompey faithful were looking for him to help them this year, but he left for League One opposition Wigan Athletic.

Portsmouth will be hoping that they can at least get mid table this year, and they are among the favourites to win the league. Their new manager Kenny Jackett is experienced and Portsmouth could go up this season.
