Rovers have announced the signing of 19 year old Harry Chapman on loan from Middlesbrough.
Chapman becomes Rovers 9th summer signing and becomes Mowbray's 5th midfield signing.
The 19 year old, who has spent time on loan at both Barnsley and Sheffield United, was wanted by a host of clubs but it's Rovers who have landed him. The youngster was part of the England U20's squad who won the European Championships this summer, but didn't play.
Harry Chapman has never played for Boro's first team, but he played for Boro during the 2015–16 UEFA Youth League, contributing eight assists and three goals in six games – more assists than any other player in the competition. Chapman spent time at Barnsley in the 2015-16 season, scoring 1 goal in 14 games in all competitions. Last season, Chapman went on loan to Sheffield United, and scored 4 goals in 14 games in all competitions, including a hat-trick in a 6-0 thrashing of Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
Chapman will be hoping to stake a claim in the Rovers first team, playing alongside the likes of fellow new boys Peter Whittingham and Richie Smallwood. After the departures of many of Rovers' midfield players, Mowbray has made strengthening that area of the pitch a priority. He clearly believes that Chapman will offer something to the team that we don't already have.
Chapman is joining what is already a strong area of the Rovers team. With competition for places, Mowbray will be hoping that his midfield players continue to push each other, knowing that any slip up could cost them their place in the team.
