Rovers 3-3 Crewe Alexandra – Player Ratings

After Rovers drew 3-3 with Crewe Alexandra, forcing a replay, James Dixon reviews how each Rovers’ player performed.

Rovers took a 3-0 lead only 20 minutes in, but after Rekeem Harper’s red card, Crewe found a way back in.

The penalty from Harper’s red let the Railwaymen back in. And after Bennett’s red early in the second half, Crewe scored two quick-fire corners to equalise the tie and take it to a replay at Crewe’s Gresty Road.

So, how did each Rovers’ player perform?

Starting XI

LEUTWILER, Jayson – 6/10 – Jayson had a decent game in front of the home crowd, making all the saves that you would expect him to make. However, his distribution at times was poor and landed straight at the feet of a Crewe player.

CADDIS, Paul – 8/10 – A very good performance to say he was out of his natural RB position. Got forward well whilst he also got back well and defended with confidence and strength.

WARD, Elliott – 7/10 – A much-improved performance from a player who most fans would have never wanted to see again. Calm and composed on the ball, made vital clearances. However, was taken off at half-time.

WHARTON, Scott – 8/10 – On his return to the first team, Scott put in a very strong performance. Made very important interceptions and was also great in the air. Very dominating performance from the youngster.

NYAMBE, Ryan – 6/10 – An improved performance, however still room for improvement. Was caught out of position a few times, however, seemed to be much better going forward.

BENNETT, Elliott – 6/10 – Played fairly well until he got sent off for an off-the-ball incident involving Ng. Made good runs, however, was fairly quiet. Not a bad performance from the stand-in skipper.

EVANS, Corry – 6/10 – A solid performance from the Irishman. Looked lively all game, got forward well towards the end (a rare sight for Evans!).

HAPRER, Rekeem – 4/10 – A very poor performance from the young loanee. Gave the ball away on more than one occasion, including one time in the box that led to him giving away a penalty and being sent off.

ANTONSSON, Marcus – 7/10 – Got forward well and made very good runs, however still needs to work on his end product. Was taken off early in the second half. Needed to get more of the ball.

GRAHAM, Danny – 8/10 – Great performance from the striker, who linked up greatly with Dominic Samuel and grabbed himself a goal. Much improved, which seemed to be the case with most players in this game. Was taken off at half-time.

SAMUEL, Dominic – 8/10 – Another 2 goals and an assist for the striker who recently has been putting in great performances. Played with much more confidence, and actually ran at players with intent.

Substitutes

DOWNING, Paul (for Elliott Ward, 45 mins) – 7/10 – Played well when we came on, defended very well to say the back line was being constantly attacked.

SMALLWOOD, Richie (for Danny Graham, 45 mins) – 7/10 – Played well when he came on and took the armband. Captained the side well and also put some good balls into the box. Made some good tackles too and wasn’t afraid to go forward.

TRAVIS, Lewis (for Marcus Antonsson, 57 mins) – 6/10 – Didn’t really make an impact when he came on. Made a few good passes and didn’t make any big mistakes. An okay performance from the under-23’s star.
