Rovers Chat talks to lifelong Bradford fan Lucas Elliot (Twitter – @LTCTID) about tomorrow’s encounter at Valley Parade.
What do you make of your team’s transfer window so far?
“Our 17/18 Summer window has been well, to say the least, eventful. It consisted of a number of seasoned pros heading for the exit door looking for a new challenge after our Wembley play off loss to Millwall. Such as defender Rory McArdle who joined fellow League 1 side Scunthorpe, James Meredith who headed south to Millwall and Billy Clarke who also headed to London to join fellow League 1 side Charlton Athletic. As a club we have recruited mainly younger players who have a bright future ahead of them. Such as Shay McCartan from Accrington Stanley for a reported £200k and Jake Reeves from AFC Wimbledon for £150k. Only time will tell if this approach works out in the long run but for one, I am impressed with the business done this summer as it shows our new owners’ willingness to spend a fee on players they see worth it in the long run.
What do you think of Blackburn Rovers’ summer deals?
“As League One’s new boys, i would expect Blackburn to be challenging at the top end with the best players, due to the size of the club and pulling power, which is exactly what they have done in the transfer window and to say the least it is very impressive. With the accusation of former Cardiff midfielder Peter Whittingham and Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack, who for one i am a massive fan of. This signals to me that they mean business this season and O believe they will have a very good season with the quality they have added to their already good looking team.”
Who is your team’s player to watch and why?
“If I was to signal out a player as ‘standout’ it would have to be Jake Reeves. The £150k midfielder from AFC Wimbledon. He has been superb since he came and didn’t look out of place against Newcastle among the likes of Shelvey and Hayden. He is a excellent passer and keeps the ball ticking over in midfield, doing the simple things correct. McCall likes to have the lion’s share of possession vs teams so he slots right into our midfield with ease.”
How do you see your season going?
“As a passionate Bradford City supporter for coming up to 10 years now, every season I am optimistic that we will build on the last season and that we will achieve a high league finish. As for the past 4 seasons since we have been promoted from League 2 we have built on the previous league finish, with a play off final last season. This season i would expect us to be challenging for the Automatic spots due to the fact that we have the resources to do so, such as funds, players and an excellent manager in Stuart McCall and the fact last season we lost out to Millwall in the play off final, so this season I would hope we could go one better. However, I would be happy with a top 6 finish once again.”
How do you think the game will go?
“Any team coming to Valley Parade will expect a challenge, with the expected attendance this weekend to surpass 20,000, the ground will be rocking and coming off the back of two previous league victories our players will be confident they can get a result vs Blackburn. Although, you can never rule out Blackburn with the amounts of quality the have in their team, they will provide a stern test for us, on a home ground where we have been unbeaten since mid-2016. I can see the game being a tight encounter but I would hope with our excellent start to the league we would be able to edge it and take the three points on offer.”
“My score prediction for this match is 1-0 to Bradford City. I believe the scorer will be Alex Jones.”
