NYC Rovers are a Blackburn Rovers Supporters Club based in New York and have been running for several years. RoversChat talks to Jay from NYC Rovers about his time as a Rovers fan.
Why do you support Rovers?
“I started following Brad Friedel’s Career after 2002 World Cup and followed him over to Rovers.”
What do fellow Americans think of you supporting Rovers?
“Since most Americans support a top 5/6 (team), there is a camaraderie between those of us that support any team outside of Champions League, so I’d say respect from other Americans that support similar clubs and bewilderment from the United/Chelsea/Arsenal folks.”
What is your first memory of being a Rovers fan?
“My earliest memory of supporting Rovers was watching a delayed match on fox sports world in 2003. I can’t really remember much other than being upset that live matches were not available.”
What was your first game for Rovers?
“My first match in person was a 1-1 draw at Ewood against Brum in 2011 Junior Hoilett scored for us just before the half.”
What is your ultimate 5-a-side team for Rovers?
“Assuming no keepers and only including my time following Rovers – Benni McCarthy, Roque Santa Cruz, David Dunn, Chris Samba, Tugay.”
What are your thoughts on the summer for Rovers?
“It has been a good summer for Rovers all things considered, I like the quality Mowbray has brought in and I think he has set us up to do very well in this division.”
What are your predictions for next year? (e.g final position, top scorer, POTY, etc.)
Final position: 2nd.
Top Scorer: Danny Graham.
POTY: Mulgrew (if he stays)
Bold Prediction: Wembley trip in Checkatrade Final.
